Common Coop expressions
Terms, names, and conventions for how we refer to Coop and the organisation in text.
Language
See Language for guidance on Swedish-first writing and UK English when English is needed.
Organisation and business areas
At Coop we use specific words, terms, and expressions. Business areas can be translated for clarity, while company and organisation names are kept in Swedish.
- Affärsområde Försäljning & Marknad (Business Area Sales & Marketing)
- Affärsområde Sortiment & Inköp (Business Area Assortment & Purchasing)
- Affärsområde Logistik (Business Area Logistics)
- Coop Butiker & Stormarknader AB
- Coop Logistik AB
- Kooperativa Förbundet (KF)
Consumer co-operatives
- Names such as Coop Norrbotten and Coop Mitt are proper names and use an initial capital letter.
- The word konsumentförening (consumer co-operative) is not a proper name and is written in lowercase.
Our own brands
Our own brands are Änglamark, Coop, and Xtra. In body text, our own brands are written in lowercase with an initial capital letter.
Formats
Our formats are Stora Coop, Coop and coop.se. When referring to grocery shopping online, we use coop.se.
Using the name Coop in text
When the Coop logo is used as the sender, there’s no need to repeat Coop in the text – the design already shows who we are. Write våra butiker (our stores) and våra medarbetare (our colleagues), not Coop-butiker or Coop-medarbetare.
Descriptive words are written in lowercase. For example, write medlem and poängshop (not Medlem or Poängshop).
In third-party contexts, such as media or partner channels, the Coop logo isn’t usually shown. Here, it’s important to mention Coop in the text. But avoid creating Coop names. Instead, write butiker inom Coop… or alla medlemmar i Coop….
Naming – strategic principles
We only use Coop or Stora Coop as the logotype. Specific locations or local associations (for example, a consumer cooperative) are written separately in text, not as part of the logotype.
